Cobra File Defrag

Defragmenting your drive (or just specific folders on one of your drives) is one of the items on the “things to do to make my computer run smoothly” list. Developer Cobra Apps has an application for you that makes it quite easy to perform this task, the appropriately named Cobra File Defrag. With this tool you can easily and rapidly defragment drives or folders.

To install Cobra File Defrag on a 32- or 64-bit edition of Windows, you will have to run an executable found in an archive that’s less than 1MB in size. Launch the executable, go through the setup wizard, and in very little time Cobra File Defrag will be ready for use. XP, Vista, and Windows 7 are supported; on these editions Cobra File Defrag should work without any problems.

Cobra File Defrag’s interface displays your drives in a pane to the left. Click the + (plus) sign next to the drive to view its contents, or double click it to achieve the same effect. When you select one of your drives, two options will be activated: the option to “Analyze only selected folder/disk for fragmentation” and the option to “Analyze selected folder/disk and subfolders.” The amount of time it takes to perform the analysis depends on the size of your disk and on the amount of data stored on it. Once the analysis is complete, two more options become available: “Defragment only selected folder/disk” and "Defragment selected folder/disk and sub-folders.”

With a licensed version of Cobra File Defrag you can defrag individual files, specific folders, or entire drives. With the trial version you can only defragment individual files; the function to defrag folders and drives is disabled. You can only use the file defrag functionality during the 15-day trial period. The truth is that there are numerous other applications out there that offer similar functionality for free.
